No cut? No worries.

You wouldn’t be blamed for thinking that one shot clips are a colourist’s dream.

“Only one shot to grade? Shit yeah, I can sleep tonight”!

Sorry buddy, better go and grab another coffee, because that simply ain’t true. Grading a continuous shot can be a delicate and time consuming process, especially if you’re hell bent on getting it right (which of course we are).

You see, when a single shot moves between rooms or environments, the colour and lighting shifts also, meaning no single grade will suite the entire clip.  We ran into this dilemma while colouring JOY.’s latest music video, ‘Weather’. In the clip, a distraught heroine (the lovely JOY. herself) moves frantically between several rooms before eventually heading outside to stop the evil men from taking her possessions away.  The boys over at Crux Media used the one conitnuious shot effect beautifully to create a hypnotic, trance-like mood. The only problem is that every time JOY. moves into a new room, the lighting and colours change drastically (check out the raw images below to see what we mean).
